What does it mean to be a Christian business owner? Sadly, experience has taught me that it means different things to different people. Here is what I believe it should mean.

I believe that being a Christian business owner should mean that:

  • The owner proudly professes a saving faith in Jesus Christ.
  • The business primarily employs Christian employees.
  • The business owner sets (and sticks to) values that are worthy of being called Christian.
  • The employees stick to the values set by the owner of the business.
  • All work is done to the best of their ability.
  • All products sold are to be high quality for a reasonable price.

If these few points are not met, the owner of the business really should reconsider whether or not the business is worthy of being called Christian.

I write this because, every day I struggle with whether or not I should use Christian symbols on my marketing materials. Though I know my own heart, I wonder whether or not I am a good enough Christian to broadcast it in my business. I say this, not because I think I am unworthy, because I don’t want to bring any dishonor to the name of Jesus. I strive to live a life worthy of the calling, but I am imperfect and I fail. The last thing I want to do is dishonor the name of Jesus and His Father.

I pray that the God I serve, through the Holy Spirit, would show me the way to go, that He would guide me in setting up the values that he wants me to show to the world. I pray that I would be attentive to His leading and when I receive such leading, I would not only listen but also obey. In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, my Lord and Savior, I pray. Amen

God bless you and if you are a Christian business owner, please consider what I have written.
